Backpacking Las Vegas
Backpacking Black Canyon
Description Itinerary Photos Reviews Questions Packing List

Where do we meet the morning of the tour?
Our van will pick you up at a designated hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. We pick up at most major Strip hotels, or within walking distance of most. Details will be on your confirmation, or you can call our office to speak to a reservation specialist.

What time will we get back?
You should arrive back at your hotel the next afternoon, approximately 3pm.

What is included during the trip?
Backpacking tours include internal frame backpacks, lightweight sleeping bags, self-inflating pads, pillows, cooking gear and stoves, mess kits, and all meals. Round trip transportation to and from Las Vegas, along with all in-park transfers and fees, is included.

Do you offer student discounts?
Yes! We offer student backpacker rates, which are discounted $10. You must supply a valid/current student ID to qualify.

Do you offer any discounts for children (or other)?
Children 14 years and younger receive a $50 dollar discount per person on guided multi-day trips, and $10 off guided day trips.

Is there a minimum age requirement?
For the safety and enjoyment of everyone on the backpacking trips, we ask that children be at least 14 years or older.

What kind of experience do your Guides have?
Our Guides have years of backcountry experience; both personally and professionally. They possess knowledge of the area, trails, wildlife, plants, and weather patterns. They undergo strict training programs which prepare them to manage groups, make good decisions, and handle emergencies. CPR and First Aid training, as well as Wilderness First Aid or First Responder is standard. They carry cell phones, marine radios, and/or satellite phones at all times.

What should I bring/wear?
Take a look at our packing list section, for a complete outline of items to bring on backpacking trips.  If you have questions, don't hesitate to call our office. We will be happy to answer any questions you have about clothing, sleeping bag ratings, or killer amoebas (just kidding).

Do you supply alcohol? May we bring our own?
No. Alcohol is not allowed on backpacking trips. Please understand, safety is our main concern.

When should I make a reservation?
Space is limited, so you should make your reservations as soon as possible. This trip fills up fast in Spring and Fall months when weather is fabulous.

Are there minimum participant requirements?
Our backpacking tours operate with a minimum of 4 participants, as long as space is available.

How much should I tip my guide?
Your guides work very hard to make sure your experience is rewarding and memorable. They often spend hours preparing before your trip to ensure your comfort and physical needs are met. During a trip, your guide is constantly on the lookout to minimize risks and maximize enjoyment. They appreciate your verbal praise and thanks, as well as monetary gratuities. Any cash tips can be given to the guide at the end of the trip. Gratuities generally range between 10%-20% of the total trip price, at your discretion.

Should I buy travel insurance?
If you are concerned about the possibility of having to cancel, we strongly suggest you purchase trip cancellation insurance to protect your vacation investment. Our cancellation policy will apply in every instance, with no exceptions for any reason. Desert Adventures is not responsible for any expenses incurred due to travel delays, flight cancellations, or illness. Desert Adventures assumes no financial responsibility for personal injury, emergency evacuation, or equipment lost or damaged in any way.

What if I have to cancel?
We have a 14 day cancellation policy. Cancellations made 2 weeks prior to departure date will receive a full refund. Cancellations made within those dates will be issued a percentage of their refund, with absolutely no refunds or rescheduling within 48 hours. If you must reschedule, we require 48 hours notice and rescheduling fees will apply. Desert Adventures will not issue any refund for leaving a trip early. Trips run rain or shine. Desert Adventures reserves the right to cancel trips due to weather or unsafe conditions. In this case, we will reschedule, issue a credit, or refund money, depending on individual circumstances. For more information see our Payment & Cancellation Policies section, or call our offices.
