Day 1
Black Canyon is a strikingly beautiful volcanic area. Creosote bushes,
globe mallow, and rock nettle surround you as your journey begins. Jagged canyons reach high into
the sky as you begin your descent. Scrambling is sometimes necessary to maneuver around house-sized boulders,
and trickles of water begin to surface as hot springs reveal themselves.
The springs are heated by contact with molten rock and surface through faults at the rate of 400 gallons per minute.
Temperatures range between 85F degrees to 120F degrees.
Prepare your base camp for the evening, either sheltered by the canyon, or closer to the river on a nice beach. Here you
will spend the afternoon soaking in geothermal pools, relaxing, reading, and just enjoying nature. After dinner,
take a long soak by candlelight before turning in for the evening under the starry sky.
Day 2
A light breakfast starts your morning off right, as you pack up camp and stow your belongings.
The Colorado River hustles by as bighorn sheep gather to drink from the cool waters. It's a leisurely
morning, as you enjoy the sunrise
and perhaps a natural "hot tub" soak before saying goodbye to Black Canyon and its treasures.
With packs on, your group slowly heads back toward the trail up and out of this amazing canyon. Its a slow upward
trek, and you will take your time, savoring the memories as you go. Back at the trail head, the vehicle awaits to
transport you back to your hotel in Las Vegas.
